This summer, film and community come together under the open sky for the Summer Movie Festival, a celebration of storytelling, culture, and local connection in Rainier Beach.
Each evening begins with a vibrant vendor market at sunset, showcasing local artisans, small businesses, and food vendors. As the sky darkens, the night opens with a rotating segment that adds a unique touch to each event:
A themed performance or presentation that aligns with the film’s cultural or social themes
A talkback with filmmakers for locally produced films
A community open mic to invite reflection and creative expression
After the feature film, some evenings may include a facilitated conversation or talkback depending on the content and theme of the screening.
All events are free to attend and part of the Be’er Sheva Activation Plan supported by Seattle Parks and Recreation, with a focus on uplifting BIPOC, WMBE, and First Nation voices in the South Seattle community.
